Dofus Retro private server: comparing Retro and Retro-like offerings

What do “Retro” and “Retro-like” mean? A dated comparison of DOFUS Retro and RetroZia based on their public pages: version, account, download and limits.

Methodology and limits

Same criteria for both offerings, applied on October 13, 2026 to their public pages. Each cell refers to the page that supports it; a claim is not a verification, and “not published” only means that no page consulted states it. The directory is used only for the RetroZia listing; its category page could not be accessed and is not used.

Comparison criteria

  • Version and client announced on the project page
  • Announced language and account model
  • Download and supported systems
  • Rules, content and updates described by the project
  • Dated status and stated affiliation

The words “Retro” and “Retro-like” look alike, but they don’t refer to the same thing. This page compares them using two public examples: DOFUS Retro, presented by Ankama, and RetroZia, a private server that describes itself as inspired by Retro. It applies the same criteria to both, as of October 13, 2026, and ranks neither offering. A single “Retro-like” example does not represent all such offerings; the list is not exhaustive.

What “Retro” and “Retro-like” describe

“Retro” here is the name of a product published by Ankama. Its presentation page is titled “Un voyage dans le temps” (“A journey through time”) and describes it as an updated version of the original game: since 2019, Ankama has been bringing usability and visual improvements through updates, and states that some DOFUS features may not exist in it. The page description refers to the “famous 1.29”.

“Retro-like” is a label chosen by a third-party project: the Serveur Privé directory lists RetroZia under “Retro-Like”, and the listing explains that the server “captures the spirit of Dofus Retro” on version 2.64. This is a self-description, not a guarantee of faithfulness to Retro. Nothing in the pages consulted indicates any affiliation between RetroZia and Ankama, and this page suggests none.

Reading the announced version and client

CriterionDOFUS Retro (Ankama)RetroZia
Announced versionThe page describes version “1.29” in its description tags and an ongoing update since 2019. No current client number is published on the page. The site is titled “Serveur Privé Dofus 2.64”; the directory listing mentions “the power of 2.64” and a “Retro gameplay […] faithful to 1.29 farming”.
ClientAnkama Launcher application, DOFUS Retro tab, “Install” button.A RetroZia-specific launcher is offered on the download page, which calls it the “official launcher”: that adjective comes from the project itself and does not indicate any link with Ankama.
Supported systems“Game available on Windows, Mac and Linux”.Windows 10/11 (64-bit) and macOS 13+ (Apple Silicon and Intel), according to the download page. Stated requirements: 6 GB of disk space, 6 GB of RAM minimum.
LanguagePage consulted in French; other languages not verified: Unknown. The directory listing title mentions “FR/EN/ES”; the site consulted is in French.

The version numbers are not directly comparable: “1.29” and “2.64” refer to different generations of the game, and neither page details exactly what each number covers. Before choosing, look for a project page that names the client and its date.

Comparing account, rules, updates and access

CriterionDOFUS Retro (Ankama)RetroZia
AccountAnkama account, to log in to or create in the Ankama Launcher. The presentation page mentions a “single-account server”. The seasonal servers are presented in “Single-account” and “Multi-account” variants. What each mode precisely allows is not detailed on these pages. The site announces a “single-account” server. The home page offers a login; account creation conditions are not detailed on the pages consulted.
Rules and contentPresentation page: original graphics with HD options, turn-based combat, professions, quests, 12 classes. No character transfers between DOFUS and DOFUS Retro. The listing announces: fights with up to 4 players, “reworked” and “rebalanced” spells, a prestige system, item rarities, drops up to level 200 and Dofus to fuse. These are the project’s claims; they have not been verified in game.
UpdatesAnkama announces updates since 2019; their schedule is not published on the page consulted.User reviews on the directory mention regular updates. This is player opinion, not a project publication; the project page gives no dated patch notes: not published on the pages consulted.
Access and dated statusThe seasonal servers display “pre-registrations are now closed”; the page shows no end date. This was the status displayed on October 13, 2026.No dated server status is published by the project on the pages consulted: Unknown. The latest directory review is dated August 24, 2026.

A player review can be enthusiastic or critical; neither replaces a project page. We therefore do not present any review as fact.

Sources and date

All the information above comes from the pages listed at the top, read on October 13, 2026: the DOFUS Retro presentation, the seasonal servers, the RetroZia site, its download page and its listing in the Serveur Privé directory. That directory’s category page was protected against automated requests at the time of access and was not used as a source. Nothing was downloaded or installed for this page: actual server availability, game quality and compliance with the announced rules remain untested.

A comparison of this kind is reviewed after a major announcement from either project and within 90 days at the latest. If a row is inaccurate, send the link to the relevant page and a dated public source: we will correct or remove the row, with no right of veto for the projects over the analysis. No link on this page is sponsored or paid for, and no legal conclusion is drawn about any offering. For the general framework, read how to compare Dofus 3 server offerings; other analyses are in the comparisons hub. Togu is a private server, not affiliated with Ankama or RetroZia.
